This Week at St. John’s

Sunday School and Youth Roundtable Children ages 3-11 who attend the 9:00 service are invited to Children’s Church. Please meet at the front step after the collect to follow the crucifer to the upstairs room. We’ll return to “big church” at the Peace. Children ages 3 through 5th grade, meet us in the Atrium around 10:00 for Sunday School! We use the interactive Godly Play program to teach stories from our tradition in a hands-on manner. We’ll be in Classroom 2, on the 3rd floor by the unfinished room. Middle and high schoolers, meet in the Atrium at 10:00 for Youth Roundtable. We’ll walk to a bakery in Old Worthington for fellowship, discussion of the Bible readings for the day, and a sweet treat.
Youth Group meets Sundays at 2 p.m. – We meet weekly, along with youth from St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. This week we’ll gather at St. Stephen’s at 30 W. Woodruff Ave. on the Ohio State campus from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. 6th -12th graders welcome, and there will be snacks!
Facing Loss – Our 3rd Monday program for Monday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. John’s Atrium will feature Rose Beeson, Nurse Geriatric Specialist and Alzheimer’s professional. This meeting will be a CAREGIVER’S FORUM for those actively caregiving, others with helpful knowledge and those who support them. Those afflicted should not attend. Singles Dining Out – will gather at Marcella’s on Wednesday, April 19, at 6:00 pm. Marcella’s is located at 1319 Polaris Parkway, Columbus, Ohio 43240. You can find Marcella’s mouth-watering menu at https://marcellasrestaurant.com/locations-menus/marcellas-polaris/. Please RSVP to Donna Hissrich at donna.hissrich@gmail.com or 614-203-3562 so she can let Marcella’s know the size of our group. Marcella’s let Donna know that seating will be limited to 19 that night, so be prompt with your RSVP. Singles Dining Out is an informal group of St. John’s parishioners and friends, always happy to welcome new participants. Singles and married individuals who will be attending without their spouse are welcome to participate, and feel free to invite a friend who is not a member of St. John’s. We hope you can join us for Italian fare at Marcella’s on April 19!
April 23 dinner for In the Garden – The menu for the April Trinity dinner is baked spaghetti and sides. Pans with recipes and sign-up sheet are on the Atrium table. Please bring food to church on April 23 by 11:15 or just call or email Eve Herold, 614-846-3736 or eve7125@att.net, to make other arrangements. Intergenerational Creation Care Workshop – will take place April 23 between the services in the Undercroft. Please join Donna DeRemer-Hissrich when you learn about the parable of the sower and then sow some seeds of your own. Please sign up on the sheet on the Atrium table so Donna will know how many supplies she will need to buy next week or you can email Donna to let her know how many will attend at donna.hissrich@gmail.com.
Nehemiah Action, Tuesday, April 25 – It is once again time for the faith-based organizations that make up the BREAD (Building Responsibility, Equality, and Dignity) Organization to gather at the Celeste Center at the fairgrounds and ask the leaders of the Columbus Metropolitan Area to account for promises made a year ago to alleviate some of our community’s most serious problems: Increasing the urban tree canopy; Reducing violence by cooperation between local law enforcement and neighborhoods; Increasing Affordable Housing through use of American Rescue Plan dollars; Creation of a Municipal ID. Please make it a priority to join other St. John’s parishioners on Tuesday, April 25 for the Nehemiah Action and find out whether these promises were kept! The impact of BREAD is dependent upon our turnout on April 25. We will have supper in the undercroft at 5:30 and carpool to the fairgrounds between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. Or you can go straight from work and join us there. There are sign-up sheets in the atrium. Arts and Crafts Ministry – We will have our first meeting since our February exhibit on Tuesday, April 25, in the Atrium at 6:30 p.m. I would like to review everyone’s thoughts on what went well and where we can improve for next time. Please bring any old or new projects to share. Also, think about some adventures we might want to take. We invite any parishioners who might like to join our ministry. Creation Care Formation Opportunity– Do you care about the environment? Have you found a connection to God in nature? Is the idea of Creation Care new to you and you want to learn more? Join us for Creation Care Theology and Practice, a two-part overview of environmental ministry led by Catherine Duffy. We will meet on consecutive Wednesdays, April 26 and May 3, at 7:00 p.m. in Kilbourne Hall. We will discuss our scriptural call to care for creation and how we might put that call into practice. Spring Fling Family Fun Day at St. John’s Early Education Center – Sunday, April 30, 2-4 p.m. We would like to invite you to join us at our Spring Fling Family Fun Day. The school will be open and all of the classroom will have activities. There will be raffle and live auction items and live music on the playground with popsicles for all. Hope you ca join us.
Flower Order Pick Up – Monday, May 1 We should have all the flowers sorted and ready by 10 a.m. If you cannot pick your flowers up that day call the preschool office at 614-885-2315 so other arrangements can be made. Thanks to all of the parishioners who placed orders this year.
Vacation Bible School – Kids aged 3-11 are invited to join us for Vacation Bible School this year! We’ll meet at the church from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays in June (that’s June 5, 12, 19, and 26). The theme will be diversity in the Body of Christ – how God calls many different people to be in community together. Kids from St. John’s or outside St. John’s are welcome! Cinco de Mayo Saturday Supper, May 6, Kilbourne Hall, 6:00 p.m. – Celebrate our neighbor south of the border with food and fellowship on Saturday May 6. The main dish will be provided. Protests and Changes in Iran – Monday, May 8, 7:00 p.m. Old Worthington Library, Owl meeting room. Learn more about Iran’s current state of affairs, following widespread protests that began last fall after the death of a young woman in police custody. Dr. Mehrak Kamali-Sarvestani, (https://nesa.osu.edu/people/kamalisarvestani.1) Persian language program coordinator at The Ohio State University’s Department of Near Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures, will share insight into the societal forces behind the protests. To add names to the “public” prayer list as seen above, please call the church office at 614-846-5180, or send an email to VirginiaN@stjohnsworthington.org. Names added to that sheet will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, or shorter if requested. Last names are not used. If you wish prayers to be continued, simply list the name on the prayer list again. Of course, you may always add names aloud during the prayers of the people.
