Sunday School and Youth Roundtable won’t happen this week – instead, teens and kids are invited to come to the intergenerational creation care event in the Undercroft at about 10:15 between the services!
Youth Group meets Sundays at 2 p.m. – We meet weekly, along with youth from St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. This week we’ll gather at the carriage house here at St. John’s from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. 6th -12th graders welcome, and there will be snacks!
Intergenerational Creation Care Workshop – will take place today between the services in the Undercroft. Please join Donna DeRemer-Hissrich to learn about the parable of the sower and then sow some seeds of your own.
Nehemiah Action, Tuesday, April 25 – It is once again time for the faith-based organizations that make up the BREAD (Building Responsibility, Equality, and Dignity) Organization to gather at the Celeste Center at the fairgrounds and ask the leaders of the Columbus Metropolitan Area to account for promises made a year ago to alleviate some of our community’s most serious problems: Increasing the urban tree canopy; Reducing violence by cooperation between local law enforcement and neighborhoods; Increasing Affordable Housing through use of American Rescue Plan dollars; Creation of a Municipal ID. Please make it a priority to join other St. John’s parishioners on Tuesday, April 25 for the Nehemiah Action and find out whether these promises were kept! The impact of BREAD is dependent upon our turnout on April 25. We will have supper in the undercroft at 5:30 and carpool to the fairgrounds between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. Or you can go straight from work and join us there. There are sign-up sheets in the atrium. Arts and Crafts Ministry – We will have our first meeting since our February exhibit on Tuesday, April 25, in the Atrium at 6:30 p.m. I would like to review everyone’s thoughts on what went well and where we can improve for next time. Please bring any old or new projects to share. Also, think about some adventures we might want to take. We invite any parishioners who might like to join our ministry. Sharing Our Stories – Tuesday, April 25, 7:00 p.m. Worthington Interfaith Neighbors presents Sam Shim, From South Korea to Ohio, an Unexpected Path, in person at Old Worthington Library and also available on Zoom. Creation Care Formation Opportunity– Do you care about the environment? Have you found a connection to God in nature? Is the idea of Creation Care new to you and you want to learn more? Join us for Creation Care Theology and Practice, a two-part overview of environmental ministry led by Catherine Duffy. We will meet on consecutive Wednesdays, April 26 and May 3, at 7:00 p.m. in Kilbourne Hall. We will discuss our scriptural call to care for creation and how we might put that call into practice. Door Access Updates – will begin on Thursday, April 20 and continue until complete, hopefully before April 28. There may be some disruptions to access to the building at different doors as the work progresses. If you need to get into the building, and your code is not working, use the intercom at the South upper door, during office hours.
Upcoming Baptism Dates — St. John’s will celebrate the sacrament of Baptism on Pentecost Sunday, May 28, and also during Bishop Wayne Smith’s visitation on Sunday, June 25. Preparation involves a conversation with a priest. If you are interested in Baptism for yourself or your child, please contact Gia or David.
St. John’s Book Club – will be starting up again. We will be meeting Wednesday on Zoom click HERE, at 7:00 p.m., beginning April 26. Christian short stories are our focus at this time; The Best Christian Short Stories, edited by Bret Lott. The book can be purchased from Amazon’s selection of used book sellers. Spring Fling Family Fun Day at St. John’s Early Education Center – Sunday, April 30, 2-4 p.m. We would like to invite you to join us at our Spring Fling Family Fun Day. The school will be open and all of the classrooms will have activities. There will be raffle and live auction items and live music on the playground with popsicles for all. Hope you can join us.
Flower Order Pick Up – Monday, May 1 – We should have all the flowers sorted and ready by 10 a.m. If you cannot pick your flowers up that day call the preschool office at 614-885-2315 so other arrangements can be made. Thanks to all of the parishioners who placed orders this year.
Clothing on Coat Racks in Atrium and Hallway outside Library – some clothing has been there for a long time. If you are missing any coats or clothing, please check. The items left on the racks will be donated around May 15.
St. John’s t-shirts are back by popular demand! Don’t miss your chance to order a St. John’s t-shirt. Order forms can be found in the Atrium. All orders must be placed by May 14th. T-shirts are available in red, lime green and ocean blue with the St. John’s logo in white on the front, in adult sizes small, medium, large, x-large, and 2xl. The cost of the t-shirt is $20.00 with all proceeds going to our outreach and social justice ministries. Consider purchasing shirts for yourself, a friend, or as a donation to the congregation. Vacation Bible School – Kids aged 3-11 are invited to join us for Vacation Bible School this year! We’ll meet at the church from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays in June (that’s June 5, 12, 19, and 26). The theme will be diversity in the Body of Christ – how God calls many different people to be in community together. Kids from St. John’s or outside St. John’s are welcome! Flowers on the Altar today – Monroe and Judy Dowling are giving flowers in thanksgiving for life of Helen Dowling. Matt and Kim Rice are giving flowers in thanksgiving for the lives of John W. Benson (father of Kim Rice) and Ronald Rice (father of Matt Rice).
Episcopal Night at the Symphony – REMINDER – Friday, May 19, Ohio Theatre, The Columbus Symphony Orchestra & Chorus presents “Welcome to Spring.” Ticket prices are $60 per person and include food and beverages at a 5:30 pm reception on the 4th floor of Galbreath Pavilion, as well as orchestra seating for the concert which begins at 7:30 pm. The price for the reception only is $35 per person (if you already have your tickets). Please send a check for the full amount, along with the names of those in your party to the Rev. Protests and Changes in Iran – Monday, May 8, 7:00 p.m. Old Worthington Library, Owl meeting room. Learn more about Iran’s current state of affairs, following widespread protests that began last fall after the death of a young woman in police custody. Dr. Mehrak Kamali-Sarvestani, (https://nesa.osu.edu/people/kamalisarvestani.1) Persian language program coordinator at The Ohio State University’s Department of Near Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures, will share insight into the societal forces behind the protests. To add names to the “public” prayer list as seen above, please call the church office at 614-846-5180, or send an email to VirginiaN@stjohnsworthington.org. Names added to that sheet will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, or shorter if requested. Last names are not used. If you wish prayers to be continued, simply list the name on the prayer list again. Of course, you may always add names aloud during the prayers of the people.
