Summer Sundays! Beginning June 4, we are scaling back our Sunday school offerings for kids for the summer, but that doesn’t mean we’re not having fun! During the 9:00 a.m. worship services this summer, kids ages 3-11 are invited to join us for Summer Sundays – two Safe Church-trained adults will take kids to spend some time on our playground (or a classroom if there’s rain) for the first half of the service, returning in time for communion.
Bonus Godly Play session! Before we wrap our Godly Play curriculum up for the summer (it’ll be back in the fall!) we’re doing a “bonus” session at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 4th! We had to miss a session at the end of May, so this bonus session will allow us to share the final lesson with the kids. Meet in the atrium at 10:15.
Celtic Service this Sunday, June 4, at 5:00 p.m. – Weather permitting, our last Celtic service of this church season will be held in the churchyard on Sunday, June 4, at 5 pm. This is the perfect location to celebrate the beauty and fecundity of God’s creation among the trees and shrubs and lovely flowers of our own St. John’s garden. Please bring your own chair if you possibly can; we will have some extras for those who find this too difficult. If the weather is bad, we will meet in the atrium as usual. We will welcome the summer with our usual blend of song, liturgical reading, prayer, and silence. Please join us. ~ The Celtic Fellowship
Light the World with Love – St. John’s presents a spectacular outdoor light show celebrating LGBTQ+ PRIDE! Come out to see the show, enjoy some snacks, and hear some inspirational music on the Worthington Green in front of St. John’s Church on Friday, June 9, Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June 11 from 8:00 pm until 10:00 pm. While enjoying the show, you can treat yourself to Kona Ice on Friday and Saturday between 8:00 and 9:00 and Chill Joy Frozen Treats between 8:00 and 9:00 on Sunday. The Worthington Chorus will perform on Friday beginning at 8:00 and there might even be some familiar faces performing on Saturday and Sunday. The event is free and open to the public. All are welcome! Please help us spread the word through social media and by word of mouth. You won’t want to miss it!
Yard Signs and Flyers – A limited number of yard signs are available for anyone wanting to advertise our upcoming “Light the World with Love” light show event. Please feel free to take one to display in your yard. Flyers promoting the event are also available for you to take and share with friends, family, or to post at your favorite shop or restaurant. Both are available in the Atrium. Get them while they last! St. John’s has a Facebook post about the event if you would like to share it on-line. Thank you for helping St. John’s spread the word about this one-of-a-kind event!
Episcopalians at Pride! We are proud to participate in Columbus Pride along with other Episcopal churches in Central Ohio. We participate both by joining the parade, and by holding our annual Pride Mass. Pride Mass: Thursday, June 15, Reception at 5:30 p.m., Mass at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity on Capital Square (125 E. Broad St., Columbus) We’re gathering at Trinity Episcopal Church on Capitol Square to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ siblings and we are thrilled to have the Rev. Winnie Varghese preaching. All are welcome to attend.
Summer Stock Up Food Drive June 1-15 – the Worthington Resource Pantry is launching a community-wide food drive from June 1 to June 15 to help stock their shelves with great choices for our neighbors. The Harding-Buller Foundation of Worthington has generously agreed to match each pound of food donated with a dollar – up to 9,500 pounds! This means our donations during the Stock Up will help feed even more neighbors! Let’s go all out in supporting the Summer Stock Up Food Drive at Worthington Resource Pantry! The most needed items are peanut butter, canned fruit, granola bars, healthy snacks, canned soup, canned ravioli, shampoo, body wash, and deodorant. Please drop off your food in the baskets in the atrium – let’s fill them to overflowing!
Columbus Stonewall PRIDE March/Parade June 17 – Please join us for the 2023 Stonewall Columbus Pride March being held Saturday June 17! Last year over 17,000 marchers, representing a vast array of non-profits, activists, community organizations, and more helped celebrate and recognize our LGBTQ+ community. We will be walking in the March with other Episcopal Churches and will convene at Trinity Church downtown around 9:00 a.m. to then walk the approximately 2 mile-route (FYI- we may have to wait anywhere from 1-3 hours before our group enters the March). The route travels North on High St. toward Goodale Park, where the March ends. As Christians in the Episcopal Church we have the opportunity to share our message of love and acceptance to the LGBTQ+ community. Upcoming Baptism Date — St. John’s will next celebrate the sacrament of Baptism during Bishop Wayne Smith’s visitation on Sunday, June 25. Preparation involves a conversation with a priest. If you are interested in Baptism for yourself or your child, please contact Gia or David.

Flower Donors for this Sunday – are Monroe and Judy Dowling in thanksgiving for the life of Monroe Dowling, Sr.
All Ages Worship is taking a break and re-assessment time. We’ve been doing an all ages service at 9:00 a.m. the first Sunday of the month during this program year. Feedback from families is that the children and parents prefer Children’s Church for the children. This break will last for the summer and early fall, at least.
Door Security Updates – The hardware and software for our door security was updated in late April. Access is now by fob, rather than numeric code. If you need access to the building during hours other than worship, contact Virginia at VirginiaN@StJohnsWorthington.org with information on when you need access, and which doors.
Facing Loss – Meeting will take place on Monday, June 19 at 1:00 pm in the St. John’s Atrium. We will support those with the heavy burden of grief and caregiving as well as plan for the coming year. If you have a poignant piece of writing, please bring it. Our 4th Monday LOSS LUNCH will continue on Monday, June 26 at NOON at Worthington Chatelaine. No reservation needed, just come to the back room and enjoy good food and fellowship. To add names to the “public” prayer list as seen above, please call the church office at 614-846-5180, or send an email to VirginiaN@stjohnsworthington.org. Names added to that sheet will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, or shorter if requested. Last names are not used. If you wish prayers to be continued, simply list the name on the prayer list again. Of course, you may always add names aloud during the prayers of the people.
