This Week at St. John’s
June 18, 2023
Summer Sundays! During the 9:00 a.m. worship services this summer, kids ages 3-11 are invited to join us for Summer Sundays – two Safe Church-trained adults will take kids to spend some time on our playground (or a classroom if there’s rain) for the first half of the service, returning in time for communion.
11:15 Parking Affected by Worthington Arts Festival, June 18 — Because of construction at Thomas Worthington High School, the Arts Festival is moving back to the Village Green for the next couple of years. The festival begins at 11:00am on Sunday, June 18, which will affect traffic and parking for the 11:15 service that day. Those who attend the 11:15 service may wish to come to the 9:00 service, walk or bike or carpool or take the bus to church, or worship online that day.
The Church Office will be closed Monday, June 19 – in observance of Juneteenth.
Bishop Visitation on Sunday, June 25
9:00 a.m. Bishop’s forum on our diocese in transition
10:00 a.m. One combined worship service of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist
11:30 a.m. Festive coffee hour
The Organ Committee Wants to Hear from You — Greetings from the organ committee! We are seeking everyone’s input on several questions as we consider future possibilities for St. John’s main pipe organ. We would also like to give anyone interested a chance to meet with members of the committee to listen to comments or answer questions that you may have regarding the committee’s work. We are setting up four small group meetings in June, two of which will be in person at the church in Kilbourne Hall (on June 20th and June 28th) and two of which will be via Zoom (on June 22nd and June 26th). All four sessions will be held at 7:00pm. To sign up, please use the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0845AAAF2FA4FA7-organ Whether you plan to attend a small group meeting or not, please complete the questionnaire (online HERE, print copies available in the atrium) in order to help inform our future work on this project. Please fill out the online form or return your completed questionnaire to the box in the Atrium by Saturday, July 1. Thank you for engaging with us on this project, and we look forward to hearing from you!
Facing Loss – Meeting will take place on Monday, June 19 at 1:00 pm in the St. John’s Atrium. We will support those with the heavy burden of grief and caregiving as well as plan for the coming year. If you have a poignant piece of writing, please bring it. Our 4th Monday LOSS LUNCH will continue on Monday, June 26 at NOON at Worthington Chatelaine. No reservation needed, just come to the back room and enjoy good food and fellowship. Contact St. John’s Co-chair Cynthia Woodbeck (cwooodbeck235@gmail.com or 614-847-9529) or Worthington Presbyterian’s Co-chair Louann Shearer (567-377-3194)
Singles Dining Out – will gather at Olive and Lime Café on Wednesday, June 21, at 6:00 pm. Olive and Lime Cafe is located at 4519 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214. You can find Olive and Lime’s colorful menu at https://www.oliveandlimecafe.com/#menu. Please RSVP to Mary Bailey at mphbailey.3@gmail.com or 614-619-1803 so I can let Olive and Lime Cafe know the size of our group. Singles Dining Out is an informal group of St. John’s parishioners and friends, always happy to welcome new participants. Singles and married individuals who will be attending without their spouse are welcome to participate, and feel free to invite a friend who is not a member of St. John’s. We hope you can join us for Mediterranean cuisine on June 21! ~Mary Bailey
In the Garden – St. John’s will be serving dinner to our community members at Trinity Church downtown (Broad and Third, SE corner) on Sunday, June 25. If you can help by contributing food or serving the meal, please sign up using the sheet that is on the atrium table. Due to the change in our service schedule on June 25, we request that food be dropped off in the bins in the atrium by 10am on the 25th. If you need to make other arrangements, please contact Karen (614.378.2008 or kgraham.ohio@gmail.com). We ask volunteers to serve the meal arrive at Trinity by noon, however realize that since services may run long and you may be late. ~ Karen Graham for the OSJ Committee.
Flower Donors for this week are Don and Miriam Utter. They are giving the flowers in thanksgiving for the life of Phillip Utter.
St. Johns Book Club – will be on hiatus during the summer. We will be starting up again in September, when we will begin a study of the poetry of W.B. Yeats. If you are interested in being a participant in the fall study there are a few things you can do to prepare. Pick out five of your favorite Yeats poems and send the list to me. From these lists we will select the poems to be discussed this fall. Enjoy your summer. Teri Foley-Nelson, foleynelson1@sbcglobal.net.

Notes:
St. John’s has two separate prayer lists.
To add names to the “public” prayer list as seen above, please call the church office at 614-846-5180, or send an email to VirginiaN@stjohnsworthington.org. Names added to that sheet will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, or shorter if requested. Last names are not used. If you wish prayers to be continued, simply list the name on the prayer list again. Of course, you may always add names aloud during the prayers of the people.
There is also a “private” intercessory prayer group staffed by several volunteers from within the parish. To have your prayer request included on the prayer chain, please contact Pam Zych at 614-885-1773 and leave a message or send email to stjohnsprayerlist@mail.com
