Summer Sundays! During the 9:00 a.m. worship services this summer, kids ages 3-11 are invited to join us for Summer Sundays – two Safe Church-trained adults will take kids to spend some time on our playground (or a classroom if there’s rain) for the first half of the service, returning in time for communion.
Discerning St. John’s Mission – Saturday, August 5 – in her front page article in the July-August Crossroads (which you can read HERE), Gia invites the whole parish to join our clergy and vestry at a 9 am-12 noon morning retreat in Kilbourne Hall on Saturday, August 5. We will participate in a process of group prayer, reflection, and conversation to discern the mission of St. John’s, and what God is calling our community to do and be. Please let senior warden Mary Bailey (email mphbailey.3@gmail.com, cell 614-619-1803) know by July 31 if you plan to attend. If you need childcare, please let Mary know that too, and we will do our utmost to provide it.

St. John’s Early Education Center (our attached preschool) is looking for a woodworker who can help us make some additions to our outdoor space. Our wish list includes a couple of raised garden beds, a water trough, and possibly a farmer’s market stand. We would pay for one’s materials, time and talent. Parish Pancake Breakfast August 13, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. – fun Sunday morning breakfast with a twist. Breakfast is free and open to all! We’ll be serving pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee, tea, and all the accompaniments. The Outreach and Social Justice Committee, along with the Newcomers Committee, are hosting a parish pancake breakfast and are asking for your help with a freewill monetary gift to benefit the Worthington Food Pantry (WFP). Freewill monetary gifts through August 13 can be 1) cash or check to St. John’s Church with WFP Ministry drive in memo line in offering plate; 2) mail check with WFP Ministry drive in memo line to St. John’s, 700 High St., Worthington OH 43085; 3) Online donations on the website, choose one-time donation, and select the Current Outreach Project – WFP Ministry drive; 4) cash or checks at the Pancake Breakfast. Worthington Interfaith Neighbors Liaison – The Outreach and Social Justice Committee is seeking somebody interested in making community connections to be St. John’s liaison with WIN. This individual would coordinate our church’s participation in the Annual WIN Festival of Faiths and Nations, a multidenominational gathering of places of worship at Selby Park on August 20, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The committee will give its full support to this person in planning and staffing our display. Interested individuals can contact Jean Duncan or Lily Balukjian (Thompson) for more information.

Suggested Grocery Items for Food Pantry Donations – for next week: 100% fruit juice; feminine hygiene products. You can place your food and toiletry donations in the food baskets in the atrium. You can also give online at www.worthingtonresourcepantry.org/donate/ or www.gladdenhouse.org/food-pantry. Another way to help is by volunteering yourself – check out www.worthingtonresourcepantry.org/volunteer/ to learn about volunteering at our local pantry, or www.midohiofoodbank.org to learn about the needs and opportunities at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
Eye Glass Donations – Please drop off your new or used eye glasses in the Eye Collection box located on the Atrium table outside the sanctuary. Glasses are taken to the OSU Optometry department, and taken to countries int the Global South by optometry students. St. John’s members and members of the Lions Club Joan Bird and Bostwick and Linda Wyman can share information, and encourage you to fill up the box!
Singles Dining Out – will gather for its next dining adventure on Wednesday, August 16, at 6:00 pm at Figlio, 1369 Grandview Avenue, Columbus OH 43212. You can go to http://figliopizza.com/grandview and scroll down to find a clickable link to their menu of wood-fired pizzas, pasta, and other entrees. Singles Dining Out is an informal group of St. John’s parishioners and friends, always happy to welcome new participants. Singles and married individuals who will be attending without their spouse are welcome to participate, and feel free to invite a friend who is not a member of St. John’s. We hope you can join us for great food and great conversations on August 16!
2023 Fall Women’s’ Retreat October 13-14 – This year’s theme is: Let your Joy be the Joy that comes from Hope to receive all of the gifts of Grace. The retreat will be held at the Transfiguration Spirituality Center, 495 Albion Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45246. The Center does provide bedding and towels, private rooms and shared baths. The cost of the retreat is $60, plus the cost of food. If you would like to go but the cost is not in your budget, an anonymous donor has offered to pay for 1 room. Please plan on bringing your own breakfast, such as bagels, cereal, microwavable bacon and eggs, fruit, yogurt, etc. We have a fully stocked kitchen for your use. Names added to that sheet will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, or shorter if requested. Last names are not used. If you wish prayers to be continued, simply list the name on the prayer list again. Of course, you may always add names aloud during the prayers of the people.
