It is my opinion that there are a few issues that can make it harder to surrender and let go in contemplation or centering:
1. Having a harsh inner critic that is hard on us, is often critiquing & judging us. In this, we need to become aware of this voice & call it out. It helps to do readings about being less hard on ourselves: practicing loving kindness toward ourselves & others. Practicing holding gentle & forgiving feelings toward ourselves, doing daily affirmations are also helpful:
“May I feel contented & safe”
“May I feel protected & pleased”
“May my physical body support me w/ strength.”
“May I be kind & friendly to myself.”
“May I forgive myself when I make mistakes or am off base.”
“May my life unfold smoothly with ease.”
“I let go and let God run the show.”
2. A view of the Divine or the Universe as being harsh, critical & unkind.
No one would want to get close to a Divine Being or the Universe that is full of anger, critiquing & judging.
We need to write out the qualities of a divine being that we would like to get close to. We could pray & ask for an awareness of the Divine that is loving, kind, friendly, in my corner & on my side. Not demanding or pushy, just accepting us as we are, imperfect & frail creatures.
