This Week at St. John’s
March 26, 2023

Sunday School and Youth Roundtable Children ages 3-11 who attend the 9:00 service are invited to Children’s Church. Please meet at the front step after the collect to follow the crucifer to the upstairs room. We’ll return to “big church” at the Peace. Children ages 3 through 5th grade, meet us in the Atrium around 10:00 for Sunday School! We use the interactive Godly Play program to teach stories from our tradition in a hands-on manner. We’ll be in Classroom 2, on the 3rd floor by the unfinished room. Middle and high schoolers, meet in the Atrium at 10:00 for Youth Roundtable. We’ll walk to a bakery in Old Worthington for fellowship, discussion of the Bible readings for the day, and a sweet treat.

Youth Group meets Sundays at 2 p.m. – We meet weekly, along with youth from St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.  This week we’ll gather at St. Stephen’s at 30 W. Woodruff Ave. on the Ohio State campus from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. 6th -12th graders welcome, and there will be snacks!

Altar Rail Gate Changes – The Altar rail gate has developed both a gap between the two parts of the gate and a dip in the gate. The weaker the rail gate gets, the more likely it is that the gate may fail when someone leans on it, and someone will fall through and be hurt. We want to keep everyone safe, so we will no longer be closing the rail gate. We encourage those who wish to kneel at the Altar rail while receiving Communion, to step to either side of the rail opening to kneel. Those who prefer to stand while receiving Communion, may stand in front of the rail opening or on either side. If you have any questions about the rail gate, please speak to Lisa Graupmann.

Palm Sunday is Next Week — We observe the beginning of Holy Week with Palm Sunday on April 2. As this is the first Sunday of the month, the 9:00 service will be all-ages worship. Both 9:00 and 11:15 services will begin with the Liturgy of the Palms on the south lawn—the patch of grass between the parking lot and the stairs to the church office—if the weather cooperates, and in the Atrium if it rains. We’ll process into the nave carrying our palms.

Intergenerational Palm Sunday Workshop – April 2, 10:15am, Kilbourne Hall – In observance of Palm Sunday, we will learn how to make crosses from palm leaves, and we’ll also make stations of the cross that will be incorporated into our 5:45 Good Friday service. All ages, from 1 to 151, are welcome!

Sign Up for Maundy Thursday Agape Meal — Our worship on Maundy Thursday, April 6, will begin at 7:00pm in Kilbourne Hall with a simple vegetarian supper called an agape meal. So that we can clean up quickly and move into the nave for footwashing, Eucharist, and the stripping of the altar, this meal will be light—it will not be your main source of calories for the day. You may wish to eat something more substantial before the service. RSVP on the signup sheets at the Atrium table, or by contacting the parish office by April 3.

Easter Flowers – The Flower Guild is asking the congregation for donations for Easter Flowers. You can place your donations in the envelopes in the pews marked “Easter Flowers”. You may also fill out a form found in the Atrium where you give the flowers in Memory of, in Honor of, or in Thanksgiving for a special person. Place this form in offertory plate along with your donation. We would like all donations by Sunday, April 2nd. If you have any questions, please contact Donna Somerville at (614)208-8573.

St. John’s Supports Ronald McDonald House!  St. John’s Outreach and Social Justice Committee is sponsoring a “Travel Size Toiletry Kit Donation Drive” from March 19 until April 9. Families staying at the RMH are provided with hotel style toiletry kits to make their stay more comfortable.  OSJ will be collecting donations of travel size shampoo, body wash, hand soap, and body lotion to build the kits.  To be sure that we are able to make complete kits, please take a card(s) from the display in the Atrium and bring your donation back any time during the “Travel Size Toiletry Kit Donation Drive”.  The cards list the item and quantity needed for each donation.  Thank you for your support!  Please see Lily Balukjian (Thompson) or Jean Duncan if you have any questions.

Hello! My Name Is – Do you need a nametag?  Maybe you are new to St. John’s or maybe you have been around so long that you need a new name tag.  Well, the Newcomers Committee is here to help!  You may request a nametag at any time, and we will make one for you.  We will need you to print your name and hometown, on the sheet on the clipboard on the Atrium Information table.

Say Cheese! – Did you know that you can add your photo to the Church Directory through the Ministry One app?  It’s easy! Start by opening the app.  Select the “Profile” box.  Select “edit profile” then touch the circle above your name.  You can choose to use a picture of yourself from your library or take a picture.  Then, save or cancel if you want to retake the photo.  Save once you are finished.  Help put a face to a name and add or update your photo today! Printed instructions for downloading the MinistryOne app are on the Atrium information table.

Notes:

St. John’s has two separate prayer lists.

To add names to the “public” prayer list as seen above, please call the church office at 614-846-5180, or send an email to VirginiaN@stjohnsworthington.org. Names added to that sheet will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, or shorter if requested. Last names are not used. If you wish prayers to be continued, simply list the name on the prayer list again. Of course, you may always add names aloud during the prayers of the people.

There is also a “private” intercessory prayer group staffed by several volunteers from within the parish. To have your prayer request included on the prayer chain, please contact Jo Pascoe at 614-885-1773 and leave a message or twopas@aol.com
